And there goes another year!

So we've come to the end of another academic year for the Students at CCK, and what a great year it's been! There will be numerous different highlights for everyone i'm sure, but i'm going to give a quick run through of the year through our events.

This year i've been blessed to be a part of the team involved in organising events for the Undergraduate zone (amongst other things) and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we've loved the experience! Over the course of the year we've had 2 student quizzes, an open mic night, a treasure hunt, a meal out, the annual Christmas ball, boardgames nights, a student's sports day and many events hosted by members of the zone. I think I said everything... That's not even including the best part of the year; the Weekend Away!

All of this years events have been a huge success, and we're all so grateful to you for making that happen as well as a huge thankyou to everyone involved the organising and running of the events. But a personal highlight for me is the number of non-Christians that have come through our doors this year. With all of our events we aim to make them as accessible as possible to everyone and really encourage non-Christians to come along, so thankyou to those of you who have brought your housemates and coursemates along to our events. I really do believe that the events we put on are a great stepping stone for getting people into Church and changing the views many non-Christians will hold about Christians and the Church, so it's so great to see God really working through these events!
These events are also important to help us grow closer as a zone and I hope everyone's been able to meet more people and build on the relationships they already have throughout the year.

Hopefully we will have another amazing year, with even bigger and better events! If any of you have any ideas for things you'd like to see next year, please do let us know (in the comments below), we're always trying to think of new exciting things we can do!

So, the real question is, what are your highlights from this year? :-)

Looking for bloggers

Hey hey!  We're well on our way now with the new blog, look - 4 posts already!  But we really want this to be a dynamic, exciting and diverse blog that covers all aspects of CCK Student life.

So if you would like to write no more than 600 words on a CCK Student related subject then please let me know.  All you have to do is send me a message on Facebook by clicking on my profile and tell me what you want to write about.  Or if you already have written something that you think might be of interest to other students, then send me a link.

Happy blogging!

News from Montpellier

Hello students!

I hope this post finds you well. I'm going to take advantage of this new blog you've got going to do a bit of plugging. Feel like I should first introduce myself, as many of you won't know me. My name is Jess, I'm a third year student French/Art history student at Sussex. I haven't been around this year as I'm currently living in Montpellier, in the south of France, for my year abroad (I know it's a hard life!). But I didn't come here just for the sunshine, as good as it is. I'm also part of a baby Newfrontiers church plant, started by an amazing couple from CCK who, almost two years ago, uprooted lives and family to live life, and to bring life to this city. If you know nothing about us and you're not already involved on 'The City' you can join the group here. Neville Jones has also written a brilliant newsletter and given some history of the church which I won't attempt to repeat here.

Since starting meetings in September, with a more or less small group of people, we've gradually seen people joining us, both French, English, and even Slovak. We've established a bi-weekly small group which meets in the home of one of the families, and we're gaining momentum with the youth group who have started meeting together on a Friday evening. I'm afraid I have no photos of the meetings themselves but do have some of the all important post-service lunch, and some fun we have with the kids.

Fun in the garden

Meeting about a month ago. Numbers have grown and lunch has been upgraded to upstairs!

I've been very encouraged recently by new people coming along, including a lot more young people, but I'm also aware there is lots more room for God to move here. I've loved seeing God answering prayers left right and centre and am so excited about what he has for this church in the future. Although I have to leave in just a few months I'm passionate about praying for these guys, and I we would so appreciate you praying for us too. There are prayer points on the newsletter but in case you haven't read it here they are again:

  • Dynamic Sunday morning meetings when we encounter God’s presence and preach His word with clarity and power
  • A fully committed core of people who share our vision, and for more French people – including those with leadership gifting – to be involved
  • An increase in gifting and anointing for all involved in the church plant
  • Protection for all those involved with the project
  • For non-Christians to be at every meeting and to feel welcomed and be saved and added to the church
  • For us to have fun together and for great blessing upon those who move to Montpellier to join us. It can be hard to move to a foreign land and some aspects of life in France can be tough, so pray that they won’t feel “beaten up” as they settle in and adapt
  • For the development of, and blessing upon, the midweek group held at Paul and Helen Norcock’s home
  • For the development of a student/ young people’s group
Thanks guys, your prays really are so valuable and appreciated! And don't forget to join the group on The City to follow the latest updates. Peace

Who are CCK Students?

Hello, hello, hello!  The time has come for us to get blogging about everything that is happening in the world of CCK Students.

My name's Matt and I have the duty, nay, the honour of leading this very great and wonderful thing.  But what is CCK Students?  Or rather who are they and why should I be bothered with this blog?

Well, let me explain.  There are many students in the city of Brighton that attend Church of Christ the King.  Some are undergraduate students, some are postgraduate students and some are here more short term to study English in one of the many language schools.  So what we have are three zones for those three types of students, and they all come under the heading of CCK Students.  You can find more details about each of those on our website.

There is always loads going on with students here, so whether you are a CCK Student already or just interested to know what's happening, feel free to subscribe. :)

New blog!

So this is the new blog for CCK students! It may take a few weeks to get things tidied up in here, but in the mean-time we are looking for contributors!
